Over the next few weeks and leading up to launch, we plan on bringing you a new feature: Guild Highlights! To coincide with the beginning of Guild Beta, we’ll plunge you into an in-depth description of our Living Guilds system and everything that promises to make the guild experience stand far above any you’ve had so far. This week we start at the beginning with Living Guild introduction and Guild Creation.

Guilds in WAR provide an easy way for players to socialize as well as to organize themselves together to engage in large scale battles and activities. They also provide another vehicle for player and group advancement and pride.

  • A Living Guild progresses in rank though the activities and exploits of its members.
  • WAR provides above-and-beyond standard features like guild vaults, cloaks, and guild merchants to fulfill much more than just your run-of-the-mill communication and grouping needs.
    • Guilds gain experience and ranks just like players do. At each guild rank, guilds gain rewards that benefit the individual guild members as well as the guild as a whole.
    • Guilds unlock Standards, Vaults, abilities, etc. for their members as they gain ranks.
    • 10 unique titles (most of which can be customized to meet the needs of the guild) to offer ease in guild management.
    • Integrated guild interface where you can set up guild meetings or activities, perform guild management tasks, customize guild Standards, and choose guild rewards.

In the coming weeks, we’ll go into more detail about each of these exciting features, so be sure to check the Herald often for your sneak peek into the inner workings of the Living Guild system.

If all of the above sounds great to you, then your first step is of course to gather up a group of your closest comrades and head to your capitol city to make your guild official! The process is simple.

Guilds are created at the Guild Registrars found in the capital cities. To register a guild, gather six friends together into a group, and make sure they’re not already in a guild.

-Travel as a group to a capital city and visit the Guild Registrar.

- Fill out and then accept a Guild registration confirmation dialogue

- Pay the guild registrar a modest fee.

- Start adventuring with your guild!

This week’s Guild Highlights feature is Guild Advancement. In Warhammer Online, a guild is not just a group of like-minded players; it’s an entity in itself capable of gaining experience and moving up through the ranks with the aid of its members. Guild Experience Points (GXP) are earned through the actions and accomplishments of the guild’s members. Guild experience points are the equivalent of character experience points. As specific thresholds of prestige points have been accumulated, the guild advances to the next Guild Rank.

Here are a few examples of how your guild will earn experience within Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning:

  • Standard Guild Experience is rewarded each time a guild member receives standard experience by accomplishing goals within the game including:
    • Defeating opponents (both NPCs and in RvR)
    • Acquiring Tome Unlocks
    • Completing Public Quest
    • Completing PvE quests
    • Participating in RvR Scenarios
    • Completing RvR Quests
  • RvR Keep Ownership Guild Experience is rewarded to a guild over time for maintaining ownership of an RvR keep.
  • Battlefield Objective Ownership Bonus: While a guild possesses a claimed Battlefield Objective, a bonus is applied to all guild experience gains throughout the battlefields of WAR.

Not only do you earn bragging rights for your guild via Advancement, you also gain access to a number of exciting guild features as your guild becomes more and more prestigious. Attaining new guild levels unlocks guild advancement rewards such as customizable guild heraldry, guild cloaks, guild Standards, and guild tactics.

Rank Granted Advancement Rewards are awarded automatically when a guild attains the appropriate guild rank. When a granted advancement reward is awarded the guild is informed of the reward with a guild-wide chat notification and the notification is logged in the Guild News Log.

Some of the exciting things your guild will unlock as it levels up include:

        • The ability to access a guild vault
        • Additional guild vault space
        • The ability to create a custom guild heraldry
        • Guild cloaks
        • Guild Standards template
        • Guild Standard tactics slots
        • Guild Standard trophy slot
        • Guild Standard trophies
        • Guild tactics points (used to purchase guild tactics)

Want more information? We like to keep with the trends these days and leave you in suspense; most of the items above will be revealed in Guild Highlights issues to be published here on the Herald in coming weeks. Stay tuned!

This week we’ll explore the nuances of the Guild Interface, which is your tool for managing your guild and keeping in touch with fellow guildies. Our Guild Interface is really comprehensive and user-friendly, containing all the tools you need as a guild leader, guild member, or alliance member. The guild interface contains six different windows: Profile, Calendar, Roster, Standard, Rewards, and Admin.

The profile tab contains the guild summary, the guild description, message of the day, guild website, guild email, statistics, and news. In addition, guild members can set up a guild profile to tell other players about the guild and leave notes within the guild interface.

The Calendar is a guild reward that is granted once the guild reaches the appropriate guild level. With this tab, the guild can view, set up, and manage guild events. The Calendar can be viewed by month, date, and year, and summaries and details can be added to each event. Additionally, there is a sign-up list which allows guild members to sign up for specific events, and provides an option to allow guild members with the appropriate permissions to Accept and Decline sign ups.

  • The Calendar provides a unified interface to organize and participate in large and small activities and events.
  • It allows players to quickly overview what’s happening with the guild and alliance to facilitate a more cohesive and active membership.
  • It allows organizers to specify the requirements for participation as well as the ability to choose who will participate among the people who have shown interest.
  • It allows people to sign up for activities they want to participate in.

The Roster provides a listing of all of the guild’s members. From this window, each guild member can view the each guild member’s name, rank, career, title within the guild, and Status (when the member last logged in or where they are currently located inside the game). The Roster tab also includes a note function that allows members to set notes for public display, and officer notes that allows guild members with the appropriate permission to set and view an additional set of notes. From the Roster Tab, players can also access the Alliance window.

Alliance access is a reward that is unlocked through guild rank. Alliances are formed when a leader from one guild invites a leader of another guild to form an Alliance from within the Alliance window. Alliances can contain up to 10 guilds, with each Guild Leader being an Alliance leader, and the Alliance can have up to 50 Alliance Officers (5 per guild). The Alliance Roster displays the Alliance name, each Guild in the Alliance, Leave, Invite/Remove options, and Promote/Demote options.

The Standard window is where the Guild’s standard is displayed. Standards are granted as a guild reward and are two handed items that are usable by Standard Bearer’s on the battlefield to grant bonuses to the party (more on Standards below under Guild Standards). From this tab, Guild’s can view their Standard, Edit their Heraldry, set the Standard post, and modify Tactics for the Standard. The Heraldry Editor is accessed from this window,

The Edit Heraldry display allows guilds to choose a unique Heraldry configuration that is displayed on their Guild Standard. Heraldry reservation costs a fee and is granted as a guild reward, though the display of the Heraldry on the Standard is unlocked gradually through the guild rank progression. Heraldry customization options include a shape, base color, pattern, pattern color, emblem, and emblem color (there are 1-10 color variations per emblem).

The Reward tab lists each reward the guild can receives at each rank, and mouse-over information detailing each reward type. Members with the appropriate permission can also access the tactic purchase window from this tab (more on tactics below under Guild Tactics).

The Admin window is the tab where Leaders and members with the appropriate permissions can set access to certain guild privileges such as enabling and editing guild titles, promotion/demotion guild/Alliance chat privileges, and calendar management privileges, etc.

This week we delve into the exciting guild feature: Standards! Guild Standards allow Guild members to proudly display their Guild heraldry in battle, giving bonuses to nearby allies. As a Guild progresses by increasing its level, the Standards provide additional customizable bonuses through the use of Guild Tactics. There are over 600 Emblem choices, over 45 color choices, and over 750 Pattern/Shape combinations, for an astounding selection of over 46 million combinations to choose from! And don’t forget that you can also choose from 4 poles to hold your banner up!

Guild Standards are Guild advancement rewards that provide a game play bonus to nearby allies. The Standards become available as a Guild moves up ranks, with up to three Standards ultimately being unlocked. Once a Guild reaches the appropriate rank to unlock a Standard, the Standard becomes available for purchase at the Guild store located in your Realm’s capital city and from Renown merchants located within RvR keeps. The Standards display your Guild’s heraldry, and can be carried (or planted in the ground!) to provide an area of effect bonus, or planted inside a keep which allows the guild to claim the keep. Any Standards used by a party in RvR (Realm vs. Realm™), whether carried or planted in the world, can be captured by enemy players.

- As they advance, guilds gain the ability to carry Standards with unique Heraldry into battle.

- Heraldry is fully customizable with Emblem, Shape and Pattern designs and colors to reflect the heart of the Guild.

- On the battlefield, Standards visually broadcast who you are to your enemies and allies alike.

- They also grant customizable bonuses to nearby allies on the battlefield.

Standards can be used to claim keeps in the name of your guild in RvR, after which your Heraldry will be displayed over the keep walls and your guild gains bonus experience.

Guild Standards are equip-able items which take the place of your other weaponry and can only be equipped by members marked as “Standard Bearers” (of which the guild leader is always one) within the guild. Standard Bearers can be assigned via the right click context-sensitive menu inside the Guild Roster. With up to three Standards and seven “Standard Bearer” guild titles ultimately being unlocked, guilds now have the power to spread their fame (or infamy) across the Realms.

Standards can be carried into battle and planted in the ground for an area-wide bonus, or planted in the Standard attachment of a keep to claim that keep in the name of your guild. Claiming a keep allows players within a much larger radius to benefit from the Tactical effects on the Standard, as well as gives a steady stream of guild experience to the guild that claims it. And don't forget the prestige of flying your guild's banners over the walls of a conquered keep!

Standards may be captured in RvR by opposing Realms by capturing the planted Standard or by killing the Standard Bearer while the standard is being carried. The capturing party receives a morale and renown bonus for a successful standard capture.

When a party’s Guild Standard is captured, the Standard Bearer must purchase a new standard.

This week’s Guild Highlights features an innovative and exciting guild function: Tactics! Guild Tactics provide a way for guild leaders to choose extra bonuses on the battlefield for anyone who is in range of their guild’s Standard.
While the Standards themselves provide a morale generation bonus for the party, additional area-wide bonuses can be applied to Standards through the use of guild Tactics. Guild Tactics can be purchased using guild Tactic points, which are earned as the guild reaches new guild ranks. A guild must also unlock Tactic slots on its Standards to be able to slot its Tactics onto them, with up to three Tactic slots eventually becoming available (per Standard). This provides each Guild with a variety of ways to customize the bonuses on their Standards to best suit the needs and play styles of their Guild members.

Specific Guild Tactics are selected by the guild leader or members with appropriate permissions through the Standard pane of the Guild Management Interface. Guild Tactics are purchased in the guild tactics list in the Standard pane of the Guild Management Interface by selecting the desired tactic then selecting the Purchase Tactic option. Once purchased, the tactic may be slotted into a Standard tactic slot on the Standard templates interface.

Guild Standard Tactics slots
- Once unlocked, the additional guild Standard Tactic slot appears in the guild Standard templates on the Standard pane of the Guild Management Interface.

Guild Tactics points (used to purchase guild tactics)
- Once granted, the tactic point is listed as available for spending in the Guild Tactics list in the Standard pane of the Guild Management Interface.

Tactics are passive enhancements that help you fight the way YOU want to. Are you going to charge headlong into batter, or sneak around and plan a surprise attack? There are 3 kinds of guild tactics – Offensive, Defensive, and Stat Enhancement. Each Standard may contain one of each type of Tactic.

Some examples of Guild Tactics include:

Defensive:
- Weapon Deflection: Increases armor by a certain percentage (depending on level of tactic).
- Blade Avoidance: Increases Parry Chance by a certain percentage
(depending on level of tactic).

Stat Buffs:

- Enhanced Brawn: Increases Strength by a certain percentage (depending
on level of tactic).
- Enhanced Knowledge: Increases Intelligence by a certain percentage
(depending on level of Tactic)

Offensive:

- Thornshield: Deals a number of damage back to the attacker when you’re
struck by a melee attack.
- Enhanced Vigor: Increases Actio Point regain rate by a certain percentage
(depending on level of tactic).

Each basic guild Tactic that is purchased by a guild may be upgraded to more significant versions of the tactic by spending additional guild tactics points on the tactics line. Each guild tactic possesses a base version of the tactic and three upgraded versions that must purchased sequentially. (ie: purchasing the base version unlocks the ability to purchase version 2 of the tactic, purchasing version 2 unlocks the ability to purchase version 3, etc.

In WAR, guilds play an integral part in claiming keeps for their side. Not only can you fight together with your banner held high, but those banners can be used to benefit everyone in the area in keep defense once you’ve claimed the keep as your own. Not only that, but your guild will gain certain benefits and advantages just for owning a keep. Imagine your colors flying high for the masses to see. Stir passion in your allies and instill fear into the hearts of your enemies as they come to recognize your colors!

To claim a Keep, a Standard Bearer must plant their guild’s standard into a specific slot on the roof of the Keep. Upon doing so, the guild banner tactics will be applied to the specified area in RvR. For Example: “This Guild Rocks” has 2 tactics applied to their Bronze Banner: +5% coin & +5% loot drops. When they claim a Keep with that Banner, everyone from their Realm within the specified range of the banner will get 5% more coin and loot drops. Once a Standard Bearer plants his Standard to claim a Keep, that Standard Bearer gives up his rights to carry a Standard again until the guild loses control of the keep.

The benefits your guild will enjoy while having a keep under their control include:

  • Guilds will earn experience over time while holding the Keep
  • Guilds will be notified via chat window warnings if their claimed Keep is under assault.

  • If a Guild Disbands, then ownership of the Keep is abandoned and all guards and banners will be switched to non-guild specific.

  • If a Keep that is claimed by a guild is captured, then the Standard associated with the Keep is considered captured.

Powerful guilds from all over the world come to Altdorf and The Inevitable
City to gather and trade their secrets in our Guild Taverns. Will you answer the call and join them? Only the most prestigious guilds are able to enter these special areas, where guilds enjoy a variety of benefits available only to them! Wouldn’t it be great to have a place to network and ally with like-minded guilds to plan and carouse until the wee hours of the morning? We thought so too, and it’s for that reason that we bring you Guild Taverns!

Members of Order and Destruction alike will find solace in our taverns at Guild Rank 4. If you’re an Order player, your tavern is located in Sigmar’s Hammer in the War Quarters in Altdorf. For Destruction, visit The Viper Pit in Fate’s Edge in The Inevitable City. Speak to the Guild Merchant just outside Sigmar’s Hammer or The Viper Pit once your guild is eligible, and he will grant you entry. Cities must be at Rank 2 in order for the Taverns to be accessible.

Once within the Guild Tavern, guilds will have access to various merchants who offer many different items and services. The items and services available are dependant on the guild’s level. A few examples include:

- Flight Master: Taverns provide flight masters who offer normal travel options, but also guild rank-based locations including: Gunbad’s Entrance, Bastion Stair’s Entrance, and Lost Vale’s Entrance

- Guild Standard Merchant

- Crafting Merchant: This merchant will sell various components for crafting which are not otherwise able to be purchased, but must usually be found via butchering or scavenging.

- Renown Merchant: The Renown Merchant offers Renown gear at a discounted rate of coin.

- Siege Weaponry: This merchant offers siege at a discounted rate.

- More: We have plans to add even more specialized merchants to the guild hall as time goes by!

Services available to guilds via the Guild Taverns are dependent on the guild’s Rank. Some of these services include:

  • Recall Scrolls: Players can buy a guild recall scroll from the store which will allow guilds to transport back to the tavern during a city’s peaceful state
  • The Leader’s Hall: At guild rank 16, this room provides Guild Leaders and Officers with a rest bonus, which gives a bonus to the player’s rested experience.
  • Guild Registrar: The fellows who help out with Guild Creation can be found right outside of The Viper Pit and the War Quarters, so you can easily find them and other guild related services there!

Here are some screenshots of both the Order and Destruction Guild Taverns.
